We are only 2 months in to 2017 and we already have a plethora of artists releasing their debut albums to dip their feet in the cold water music industry. 2017 is home to yet another debut album; this one coming from HundredMillionThousand with “lp1”. It is best described as a musical mood journal, an audio log of the many facets of an ongoing journey with mental illness. Yes, we agree, this is a bold direction that HMT has decided to embark on. This is a sonic coping mechanism, of persian/filipino producer HMT, whose musical aesthetic revolves around suspenseful atmospheres, brooding pads, and aggressive percussion pattern.
We love artists who pay homage to their culture by using the instruments and sounds that make that particular culture unique. For example, HMT encapsulates his heritage into production through the use of Iranian vocalizing, key signatures, spiritual chants, and Tombak. We find it very interesting and quite dynamic in the vast differences it has to other Electronic music of today.
