'Closer' by Lemaitre featuring Jennie A. was ironically discovered (for myself) through the new Pixel Google Phone commercial that Youtube keeps showing. At least the company knows how to hook someone in with a catchy, dance driven track. Originally I had heard the instrumental without Jennie A. offering the sugar sweet vocals.Lemaitre are a duo comprised of Ulrik Denizou Lund and Ketil Jansen. Starting out of Olso, Norway however, the duo have ended up in Los Angeles, California within the last five years. Since 2010 when Lemaitre came to be, the dup as of 2016 have released seven different EP's showcasing their house, dance, electropop selves and what the world has been missing. In the case of what the world has been missing exactly is the need to enjoy funky/synthpop beats available at the ready. Which for the new Google Pixel Phone brings out the charismatic young adult out in all of us. Try watching that commercial without feeling a tiny bit bubbly afterwards.'Closer' trips up a horn section that falls right into the middle of funkadelic. Throwing around the swirl of glitched electronic synth movements and algorithms, my...oh my Lemaitre truly have stumbled upon a vast pot of gold with 'Closer'. Even as Jennie A. comes in with this high pitched, innocent voice. Somehow as the track extends into minutes, when Jennie A. breathes out a few lyrics a single piano key keeps in tune with the singer's high range. One would think that the combination of a few funky beats and a high pitched songstress would not benefit a track. Yet, Lemaitre illustrate a true master of the hypnotic craft of electronic producing comes down to the individuals creating their masterpiece.
Even though electronic based genre's are usually not up my alley...'Closer' adds a bit of spice to the mix. Lemaitre are a give or take kind of guilty pleasure, at least a guilty pleasure that doesn't mind turning up the volume.
