Meishi Smile is an electronic art project from Los Angeles, California. It consists of May / May and Silva (Live shows). The project has two albums you can find following the link below. Meishi Smile was started in 2010.
But what is this Meishi Smile, anyway? It is calmly horrible and horribly calm beauty of experimental electronics which come from harsh noise, shoegaze, dream pop and Japanese pop music. It might sound weird while you are reading these lines but it will sound perfectly yours and just right when you be listening to it on and on the whole night long. Distorted vocals / screams, dreamy leads and pads and futuristic slow soundscapes of synths and urban dreams are the pieces of a strange and unique puzzle. Meishi Smile is one of a kind project and is worth attentive listening and observation.
One can’t say for sure whether the images in the head which appear while listening to Meishi Smile are wicked or melancholic. Maybe it is some kind of a wicked and doomed melancholy. I am not sure if May has meant this electronic art to be that way, but this is the feeling I’m experiencing each time I listen to Smile’s music. This is the journey into a cold though very passionate world of human’s conscious and human’s twisted nature.
My feet are in a hot water. My fingers type these lines. My ears are consuming the enveloping sounds of Meishi Smile. And I’m not sure what exactly is going on, but I definitely like it.
