The partnership between London duo JeanGa and George began at an auction, where both parties were bidding for a Roland TR-707 (a programmable digital sample-based drum machine). Instead of engaging each other in a destructive all-out bidding war, they decided to share it and sow the seeds for what will hopefully be a rich and enduring musical partnership.
Now signed , a collective of musicians, DJs and artists on the Berlin-London axis which specializes in 'leftfield electronic popular music' (their modus operandi is to 'release colourful music because we dance in the dark'), the duo have released "Sunscreen" as a taster of their upcoming LP European Repetitive Beats (2017, forthcoming).
The mostly instrumental track evokes a blissed-out and chilled-out state of psychedelia that evokes not only the summer, but the intense longing for it (which can probably be attributed to having to live on a generally cold and rainy island). After an inviting and laid-back intro, conversational vocals help set the scene for the long-awaited heat and opportunities for leisure: 'The summer's coming/ At long last/ It's been grey one/ A sad day one/ But now it's all past'.
The evocative track is accompanied by a vibrant and quirky animated video, which was illustrated by Georgia Sawers, storyboarded by Henki Leung and animated by Jimi Newport.
