Otherworldly Electro

Møme (Jérémy Souillart) is a French DJ from Nice who is best-known for "Aloha", a collaboration with Australian vocalist Merryn Jeann from his second EP Cosmopolitan (2015). The song is a great showcase of his French touch (which can be described as a 'magical' marriage of old disco loops and house beats) and Australian chill-wave influences; it offers a seductive juxtaposition of catchy electro synths with saccharine pop melodies.

A month ago, he released "Playground" as the first single from his debut album Panorama (2016). The album was recorded in Australia, and he has noted that it his "first album is a panorama of music that recounts my recent trip to Australia, the exceptional people I met across the country" and "above all the story of a journey, a life and encounters".

Being fully instrumental, "Playground" moves away from dreamy pop hooks to embrace something more otherworldly. As many Youtube commenters have noted, the beginning of the track is strikingly similar to the main theme of  (2014), which was composed by Hans Zimmer. After some distorted synths that resemble echoes of robotic wails, however, the beat accelerates into a steady electro-banger with bright and sunny progressive house beats - which is later punctuated by a more sombre and contemplative outro. If there was a disco or club on a space station, I'd imagine that the DJ would want to add this track to this playlist.
