The Evolution of The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers made a huge breakthrough and is still topping the charts with their amazing singles. Their success is truly admirable but let’s go back and see where they started from.

2012

The EDM DJ Duo started in this year under the management of Adam Alpert. Their manager was the one responsible for having them to meet when he introduced Andrew Taggart to Alex Pall. Andrew Taggart had already been posting songs on SoundCloud before this. They started out by making remixes of indie bands. In the same year they did a collab with Indian actress Priyanka Chopra on their single “Erase”.

2013

Following that, in early 2013 they released another single called “The Rookie”.

They also released another single on December for free entitled “#Selfie”.

2014

“#Selfie” was picked up by Dim Mak Records and re-released it in January and streamed it to Republic Records. This single gave the duo their breakthrough success when it peaked on Dance/Electronic Songs chart. It also got them nominated for a Teen Choice Award as Choice Music: Electronic Music Dance Song. On August they released a single to follow-up “#Selfie”. They released “Kanye” along with sirenXX.

Their first live performance was in September of this year, they opened for Timeflies at Terminal 5. They debuted 97th on DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJ’s”.

2015

Seven months following “Kanye” they released “Let You Go” featuring the synthpop group, Great Good Fine Ok.

They signed with Disruptor Records, a joint venture label with Sony Music Entertainment by Adam Alpert, in April. They released their first EP Bouquet including, "New York City", "Until You Were Gone", "Waterbed", "Good Intentions", and "Roses".

2016

On February of this year they released their follow-up single “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya.

On March they played in the Ultra Music Festival. After a month they released a new song called “Inside Out” featuring Charlee.

On July they released their biggest single yet “Closer” with Halsey that topped on the US and UK Billboards along 11 more countries.

This song was also performed at the 2016 MTV VMAs where their fans loved the chemistry between Andrew Taggart and Halsey. On September they released another great single entitled “All We Know” with Phoebe Ryan.

A month after that they were topped 18th in DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJ’s” from their previous position of 97th.  They released their second EP “Collage” on November which included, "Setting Fires", "All We Know", "Closer", "Inside Out”, and "Don't Let Me Down".

And that’s the last we’ve heard from them for now. They also were nominated for a lot of awards this year from different songs from Bouquet. They also won at NRJ Music Awards for “Best New DJ”.

Indeed The Chainsmokers' success sky-rocketed the past few years. You can see that they really enjoy making collaborations in their music. I mean most DJ’s do the exact same thing. What do you think about The Chainsmokers? Make sure to tell me all about it in the comments down below!
