With the summer holidays kicking off all across Europe, so is the festival season. One of the acts doing its round across the festivals, as well as all the important media outlets, is Christine and The Queens.
Especially the round of the promotion is paying off. Just last summer the radio stations were already playing their French song, “Christine”, which seemed to be a contender to become the year’s summer hit, but this year, it might actually happen for the same song, but in English.

“Tilted” mixes the original French version with English and has made it to its way to the English charts since their performances on one of the biggest festivals and the Graham Norton Show.
I say “their”, but the reality is that it is just Christine. The Queens are her dancers. Together they are guaranteed to bring you a full show. Nothing energetic, like you would expect from Beyoncé and such, but she is using dance like you would expect in the theatres.
Christine is as artistic as it can get. Heloise Letissier (Christine) wanted to be an art director, but has found her home on stage instead. The influence of Michael Jackson is so prominent, that it’s easy to start comparing her with the King of Pop, but her artistry also reminds me a bit of another big French artist. Stromae.
Both of them have managed to find international success, even reaching the US, which is quite an achievement considering they mainly sing in French. While Stromae is not budging on that, and has continued singing in his first language, even after performing in New York, Christine has found a comprise between the two.
It’s really strange, but I actually still prefer her French work instead. Nevertheless, a fully translated album has been released this year, which has been critically acclaimed and she looks set to take over the world.
