The Boys Noize remix of Feist’s My Moon My Man is truly a feel-good song. Although I have a significant personal attachment to this song, having heard it for the first time in the lead up to seeing Boys Noize live at Rocking the Daisies in 2013, I believe it will have a similar effect on those hearing it for the first time. The combination of Leslie Feist’s silky vocal and Boys Noize’s signature groovy beat and heavy editing creates a track that is equal parts light and dark. Elements of Feist’s original song, such as the informal interaction that introduces the song, the honeyed harmonies that characterise the chorus and the energetic, bassy piano melody are maintained throughout Boys Noize’s re-imagining. The European electronic outfit manages to maintain the essence of the song, while adding in a glorious rhythm and grit that can’t be found in Feist’s original recording. I would also consider Boys Noize’s classic mix of My Moon My Man a good gateway into the underground electronic music scene. The thread of Feist’s beautifully clear vocal will have indie listeners feeling at home while the dark electronic landscape will ease them into the creative possibilities that electronic music has to offer.
