Irish singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy appears to be taking her craft to idiosyncratically stratospheric hights with the release of "Ten Miles High", a single from her forthcoming album Take Her Up To Monto (July 8, 2016). With minimalist synth beats and existentialist lyrics, Murphy offers an accessible avant-garde track that is accompanied by a trippy, kaleidoscopic video that presents Murphy exploring London's Underground, tunnels, bridges, construction sites and elevators in construction worker's attire (i.e. bright yellow and orange vests and jackets).
The lyrics are probably not meant to be taken literally; Murphy seems to be championing the need to break free from the restrictions, conventions and limitations of everyday reality (Goodbye, oh little cruel world/ Never again will I ever be grounded on Earth or be bound by the hurt in you') to ascend to a greater plane of consciousness:
'Let's ride ten miles upJust inside the stratosphereMore sky, more blue jetsStream by, you're gonna love it here
Let's fly ten miles upJust outside the atmosphereWe'll climb, oh straight upSet aside your rational fear'

If you've ever felt trapped by claustrophobic confines, Murphy's latest single potentially offers temporary respite - leave your body behind, and let your thoughts reach for the 'Brave New World' within the clouds.
