Good Times

Spring has come. Though it’s February now, spring is all around: everything is so pulsating, deep and anticipating. Everything is almost complete. Only the spring smell is still missing. Long walks with thoughts and images in my head full of delight and beautiful plans; everything is grey; a mysterious fog is watching me with a smile on its face; the air is full of magic; dreams are coming true; evenings are mystical and promising. I walk these streets with lights in my eyes thinking of all the good things me and my Special Someone are to do. And I feel so light!

And that’s why I wanna tell you about Drinking Electricity, a synthpop band from Edinburgh, Scotland. They were active in the early 1980s. Their sound is stylish, ingenious, sly and charming. They are extremely playful and non-trivial. Everything is so well thought-out, complete, funny and cartoonlike that I couldn’t ignore them. I fell into Drinking Electricity at once. They are electronic, cunning and very light.

Drinking Electricity’s discography counts six singles only, one split and one album. And it’s very, very sad. Bands like this must record and release, record and release. Drinking Electricity is like a fast addiction: you’re listening to “Good Times” or “Twilight Zone” and the next thing you know you are a Drinking Electricity fiend. And there is nothing you can do about their discography which is too short! What’s a junkie to do?!

So I enjoy Drinking Electricity while walking these spring streets full of something beautiful which is hard to define but it’s got to be felt. And every tasty sound of synth and voice is so meaningful and important to me now. Hope you can feel the same. And I do hope Drinking Electricity will make you feel this spring.

Cheers!
