Stromae, a Belgium music superstar known not only for his music but also for his distinctive physique and clothing style, came to wide public attention with his song "Alors on danse", which became a number one in several European countries. In 2013, his sophomore album Racine Carrée was a commercial success and he was nominated for "Best Dutch and Belgian Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
As recently reported by Pitchfork, Stromae is making his first real push into the american market and to promote the tour, he performed in Times Square, on a subway train, and under the Brooklyn Bridge.
In his music, Stromae chooses important issues that are relevant for him. For instance the video accompanying this article (Carmen) aims at consumer behavior --including celebrities and politicians like Queen Elizabeth and Barack Obama — in social media with Lyrics that translate as "Watch yourself. All those who 'like' you out there, those fake smiles cut like a hashtag”. The awesome video was directed by Sylvain Chomet, the Academy Award-nominated French comic artist who directed The Triplets of Belleville (2003) and The Illusionist (2010).
Below is Stromae’s tour schedule with Jidenna (*), Janelle Monáe (#) and Freedom Fry (^) for the upcoming weeks:
