Taio Cruz sings a new song

There was a time when Taio Cruz dominated the charts, but it’s been pretty quiet for a while now. New music that he released didn’t hit on the way that his earlier songs managed to, but he’s just a released a new attempt. In collaboration with French Montana, he’s released the rowdy “Row The Body”.

It’s not the Taio sound of “Break Your Heart” and “Dynamite” that you may remember him for. His music has changed to tropical house and his pronunciation of his lyrics remind me more of Rihanna’s parts in “Wild Thoughts” (DJ Khaled). In fact, most of his vocal melodies remind me of that, too.  Basically, all that’s remained is his repetition of lyrics, but even that has taken a step back.

“Row The Body” is a good attempt at getting back in the commercial, mainstream game. I had great expectations for him back in the day, because their seemed to be no end to his reign of hits, which led to him writing for many other stars. It would be nice to see him back in the game, today.

Taio has been away from the music scene for a while, trying to set up other types of businesses. At the height of his fame, he decided to develop an app called Kewe. Drawing in the crowds as an artist, it wasn’t a bad idea to start this social media app that wouldn’t only allow people to connect, but also allow him to provide fans with info about him.

But this single breaks his musical silence of two years. Before you start thinking he’s starting a completely new phase and indulging himself into R&B music fully, he’s not. In the Warner Music announcement for the single, he’s expressed his everlasting love with every facet of pop music. Sounds like someone who’s making sure he’s got some freedom to jump from sound to sound.

His partner, rapper French Montana, is also keeping very busy. He’s also released a song with Jason Derulo, this week. That song is called “Tip Toe”. Same topic, slightly catchier.
