Jax and Demi's spicy instruction

I’ve not been too excited about the most recent releases by Demi Lovato in collaboration with others, but her recent collaboration with Jax Jones and UK MC Stefflon Don is one to my liking. The song is called “Instruction” and has been released with a lyric video, a few weeks ago. It’s the follow up single to the massive hit, “You Don’t Know Me” for Jax Jones.

The speedy song with dominate drums is a track that puts a singers stamina to the test. No wonder it’s got a “follow the leader” topic when it comes to the lyrics. The music calms things down, slightly, and puts things into a catchy perspective with some influences of something Latin or worldly. It fully serves its purpose and makes you want to dance and party, for which all you have to do is follow the instructions. Easy peasy.

Jax Jones is one of those DJ/producers who is known to use apparent samples of other songs and create new melody lines over them. I’m sure that is also the case here, but I haven’t been able to figure out who the original song or artist may be. It’s so much his thing to remake songs, that I’m having a hard time believing this is fully original. One of the things I have to give him credit for is that he must have a huge knowledge of which music is out there and a willingness to explore anything, any genre, which shows in this song.

His collaboration with Demi has been a good strategic move. Not just to follow up the biggest track of the year, so far, but also for him to move towards working with big celebrity names. He’s literally moving up the ladder. And Demi has a huge online following. He’s already admitted to Billboard that the announcement of the release was the most retweeted tweet he’s ever posted. Still, he’s got fierce competition for the charts.

Competition for this track is even coming from Demi herself, who will be releasing a new single on July 11th. It’s expected to sound a little bit more r&b and soulish than her previous material and it will lead to a new album, later this year. So, it’ll be the end to the promotion of collaborations and full focus on her own music, again.

Not your homie Jax

I have a guilty pleasure, at the moment. I get incredibly cheerful every time I hear Jax Jones’ “You Don’t Know Me”. You know, that track…
