Remember that house jam

I really thought the song, “Remember I Told You” was going to be an “I told you so”-kind of a song, but Nick Jonas, Anne-Marie and Mike Posner have created an incredible catchy, humble love song with a house beat supporting it. Not at all what I had expected.

At first glance, I wondered how this collaboration must have come about. Anne-Marie has just been rising to fame, recently, and doesn’t seem to be the obvious choice to get connected to Nick Jonas, who’s been a household name for several years. In an interview Nick sheds light on this and has explained that he specially requested her after hearing her Sean Paul collaboration, “Rockabye”.

For Anne-Marie, this track is a bit of a change from her regular repertoire. She’s got a strong voice, which usually belts over some euro dance beat. This house track is chill. It’s got a bit of soulish vibe to it, which is strengthened by Nick’s voice.

“Remember I Told You” could very well be one of those jams that will last you through the summer, but competition is fierce this year. With the repetition of the lyrics, it’s easy to catch on to the song words and you are singing it along pretty much right away. Nick’s deliverance of the lead vocals comes with such and ease, and if I’d heard it on the radio the first time around, I would’ve probably never assumed it was Nick Jonas.

Instead, I watched the video for my first listen. The video starts out looking very artistic. It almost looks like Nick is in a museum in the opening shots and, for a moment, I thought all the people were creating their own art when they started drawing on the walls, but instead it’s just a video full of good fun. No one’s afraid to act goofy and Anne-Marie is showing off her new grey hairdo.

The song is not necessarily going to appear on a new album by Nick. He’s still in the process of creating a concept for his next album, so it could go either way. Of course, if this will be a hit like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” you can bet it’s going to be an album. For now, it’s just a great soulish house jam.
