Just a few months ago Mark Morrison was celebrating the 20th anniversary of his biggest hit, “Return Of The Mack”. Back then, the song marked his arrival to the global R&B scene, but also coincided with big mistakes that caused him to be jailed pretty quickly into his early days of fame.
Even though he seems to have been a one hit wonder, he has been amazingly clever stretching the success of one song. Mark sporadically released new music over the years and has always referenced to the track in one form or another, even releasing remixes of the track.
Just in July, Mark showed he still has a great sense for R&B music, on his collaboration with Rick Ross and Tory Lanez, “My Life in 2.0”. It also confirmed the massive impression he’s left even though his music career has not always had his focus. Regardless of the long interval, he is able to always pick up his career working with the biggest names. The song, btw, is really worth a listen, thanks to the combination of the three.
So, with one successful collaboration done, Mark teamed up with Nevada and Fetty Wap to rework “Return of the Mack” to a contemporary house track. Again, a successful collaboration.
The snippet Nevada uploaded to his YouTube channel really doesn’t do it justice. It makes you wonder how they fitted the track on the beat and gave me, personally, the impression they’d done some heavy cutting to make it work. This made me a bit less enthusiastic to find out more.
However, hearing the full track restores this impression. The song is like a surprising remix of the original song, combined with completely new verses, which you can credit to Fetty Wap. Yep, get ready, because the Mack’s in the house.
