A drop of cold water

It was to be expected. Once the collaboration between Major Lazer and Justin Bieber was announced, everybody already knew it was going to be a hit. And, indeed, it is.

This collaboration was the one that's been of great significance to Justin Bieber's phenomenal return. "What Do You Mean" - their first effort - not only returned him to the Beliebers he already had, but also turned him into a credible artist to many of the former non-Beliebers.

So, how do you follow something like that up? Well, simply by adding another heavy weight pop star to the collective: Ed Sheeran. After already being responsible for Justin's last hit, "Love Yourself", it was no problem for him to interrupt his long term holiday this year to co-write on the song.

"Cold Water" was released a little over a week ago and has already been taking over the charts, all around the world. Yesterday, in my blog about Drake, I already mentioned that the song had managed to keep his "One Dance" away from potentially making chart history in the UK. Who knows, maybe Justin is now giving that a go.

The song is a mid tempo electro pop song that, by many, has been named the ultimate summer track. Apparently, everyone is planning road trips this summer, because all the reporters and bloggers are saying it's the perfect soundtrack to your road trip.

Musically, it does hold all of the summer sounds, where there's a hint of the tropics coming from the dancehall influenced beat and a little bit of good old fashioned Euro house. However, the lyrics also hold a deeper meaning about friendship, encouragement and loyalty. I bet that came from Ed Sheeran. He does have a habit of telling a bit of a story in his songs.
