Cash Cash dances with vulnerability

From start to finish, this dance track is like a text book dance hit. It’s meeting all the requirements of a real dance anthem, with the exception that the lyrics are more vulnerable than your average “Titanium”.

“How To Love” tells the story of someone finding their way in love. In the being alone and in the dating itself.

For many years, most up-tempo dance songs have been all about empowerment. It’s like only the other side of dance music, electronica like Massive (Attack), was allowed to sound frail, sensitive and vulnerable, but I’m quite glad to see it seep through to the radio hits now.

With Sofia Reyes on vocals, the track is a bit of a mix between the airiness of Ellie Goulding and strong vocals like Sia. It’s intriguing.

I’m not sure how popular Cash Cash is worldwide, but they sure had a moment with their tribute to Michael Jackson, “The Beat Goes On” in 2011, which was pushed heavily by Dutch record label Spinnin’ Records.

Like many dance acts, they were having problems continuing their chart success, but for most dance acts this is a side business anyway, so they hit the road, produced much more music and remixed others. They have a pretty good following and now, it’s time to target the charts one more time.

Whether that will happen with “How To Love”, I can’t really say. As much as it’s a perfectly formatted dance track, there’s one thing that is bothering me about it. This format is getting old and a new one is clearly rising.

If you listen to dance hits on the radio now, you can tell the music varies more and usually contains rougher bits, like electronica going haywire. I hope Cash Cash are still on time, because it really is a great track, but I think they are in the danger zone.
