A new trend? Rock and dance combined

Mixing rock with dance music is not exactly a match that happens often. They are far removed from each other. Then again, a few years ago, we thought the same of country and dance. It took Avicii to show us different.

So, maybe that’s what is about to happen after this collaboration. DJ Armin van Buuren has teamed up with Dutch rock band Kensington for his latest single, "Heading Up High", and the result is pretty interesting. It actually reminds me a little bit of the previously mentioned Avicii. There’s also something about this that reminds me of pop-rock bands. Perhaps this simply is the new pop-rock?

The pair have just, yesterday, released the official video for their song:

Within the Dutch dance scene, it’s not the first time that rock stars have worked with DJ’s before. In fact, Armin van Buuren was probably one of the first to try unlikely collaboration. Early on in his rise to fame, he worked with the singer of Dutch gothic band Within Temptation.

However, most rock singers so far, have just adapted themselves to the dance genre.

It’s always given these collaborations a different sound from usual, because the voices are a bit raw and rough. And in the Within Temptation collaboration, more dreamy, as front woman Sharon usually sings in the high ranges of her voice.

This Kensington collaboration is the first time, you can somewhat hear that the rock song formed the foundation and it was remixed to move towards dance. Because of this it’s not the club banger, and it certainluge erion ime, he try unlikely collaboration. rotn because the voices are usually a bit raw and rougher. n dy appears to be the odd track in the middle of other new Armada Music releases on YouTube.

“Heading Up High” will most probably find a better home on mainstream radio and, due to the names involved, will also find its way to the charts, but what do you think? Is this rock-dance combo going to be a new trend?
