Today, Afrojack will be presented with a wax version of himself.
During the ADE, Amsterdam Dance Event, the wax figure will be revealed and later in the day it will be moved to its permanent residence at Amsterdam’s Madam Tussauds.
Afrojack will be the third Dutch DJ to be immortalized in wax. Tiësto and Armin van Buuren have preceded him. All three DJs have been crucial for the success of Dutch house music internationally and are regularly mentioned as top DJ’s in various magazines.
His first international success came with singer Eva Simons. Their song “Take Over Control” would launch international careers for the both of them. Eva Simons went on to work with Will.I.Am and Afrojack immediately entered at number 7 Top DJs in the world according to DJ Mag, his highest position to date.
In the following years he worked on various tracks as a producer, including Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls)” and Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything”. His own songs went on to become hits, whether they were radio friendly like ”The Spark” with Spree Wilson or “Ten Feet Tall”, which are almost perfect grids for a radio edit EDM track, to a more club vibe track like “Rock The House”.
It all made him a top earner according the Forbes magazine, who placed him at number 7 of the highest paid DJs worldwide.
He’s worked with everybody, from Madonna, Chris Brown, David Guetta to Nicki Minaj. Still, his alleged romance with Paris Hilton, during the recording of her second album, was probably the most publicized time of his life. It helped Paris launch her career as a DJ.
Alongside of his DJing and music production, Afrojack also knows his way around graphic design, has his own radio show and owns a record label, which houses other popular dance acts, such as R3hab.
Next month, he’ll be headlining the Don’t Tell Your Daddy-festival in Turkey. Other big names like Skrillex and Major Lazer have headlined the event before, but this is the first time it’ll head out to Turkey.
All in all, Afrojack has achieved an amazing career so far and has been an inspiration to many people, including myself. One of his early singles “Drop Down Now” with the PartySquad actually sparked me to write my song “They're Waiting 4 My Beat 2 Drop”. He’ll continue on inspiring many more songs and I’m sure I’ll run into his wax version at some point in time.
