Runaway June
Lipstick!
Runaway June is the newest Country Girl Trio to come on the scene, reminiscent of the Dixie Chick's harmonies and country grooves. There is absolute magic in the way these musicians harmonize and play instruments together.
Watching an acoustic version of their hit song, Lipstick reveals that the trio doesn't need the magic of the studio to produce their rich melodies and harmonies. I enjoyed their acoustic version of the songs even better than the recorded version.
Runaway June is an American country music group consisting of vocalists Naomi Cooke, Hannah MulHolland, and Jennifer Wayne. Naomi Cooke takes on the lead vocalist role with Hannah Mulholland on low harmonies, and Jennifer Wayne on the High harmonies. The group is signed to Wheelhouse Records, an imprint of Broken Bow Records. Interesting note that Jennifer Wayne is actually the granddaughter of John Wayne, the famous Hollywood actor.
The three met in Nashville and wrote their debut single "Lipstick"The song was released in mid-2016 by Broken Arrow Records. As to the origin of the song, Cook explains,”We were in a writer appointment on Music Row; it was a rainy day on Music Row, and our co-writer came in … She was like, “You know, I think I have an idea. You may have heard it before, because it’s a meme, but there’s this thing I saw that said, ‘Be with a guy who ruins your lipstick, not your mascara,’” and we were like, “Wow, I don’t even think there’s a song with that concept at all, but there’s such a big story there,” so we started writing it”
