Miranda Lambert's Automaticis a sincerely bittersweet homage to the way things were back in the day without technology. The musical groove is mid tempo country written by Lambert, Nicollle Galyon, and Natalie Hemby. Carolyn Dawn Johnson sings back up harmonies on the tune. Automaticwas a hit lead single on Miranda's album Platinum with being released in February 2014.
Automatic's video has wonderful imagry regarding how things were when alot of us were growing up in a time without technology. A throw back to cassette players, Rand McNally Road Maps, trucks with gear shifts, Airstream trailers, Polaroid Cameras, and handwritten letters. The lyrics, along with the video's vivid imagry truly bring us back to our childhood/teenage years with a nostalgic glimpse of how things were:
We'd take along a Rand McNally
Stand in line to pay for gas
Hey whatever happened to waiting your turn
Doing it all by hand
It's only worth as much as the time put in
It all just seems so good the way we had it
Back before everything became.....
Automatic
Lambert states, "The song is about slowing down, taking a breath and remembering what it's like to live life a little more simply. It's not about going back, but reminiscing about what it was like to hang laundry on the line and wait for it to dry and my dad teaching me how to drive my "55 Chevy that I still have but don't drive nearly enough. The song brings back good memories and it reminds me to take a deep breath and to remember that getting there is half the fun."
