Dirt on My Boots is literally kicking it up on the Hot Country Charts. Recorded by American country music artist, Jon Pardi. The single was released to radio on September 19th, 2-16 as the second single to his second album, entitled, California Sunrise. The tune has sold over 105,000 copies in the U.S. as of November 2016.
When I first heard this song, listening to my local country station, 105.5 KICKS FM, I absolutely fell in love with the groove. It's upbeat, almost techno feel reveals the latest "new country" genre. It's hip, and the lyrics are wonderfully clever, a bit tongue in cheek blue collar. The melody is infectious, fun, and I feel that it is kicking it up on the country charts, as it seems to be one of the best new country songs of the year. Though, many diehard country fans who are true to their traditional country genre, yearn for Pardi to remain true to the traditional roots of country. But, I sense that the progression and morphing of traditional country into "new country, is refreshing as many of the new country songs are scoring high on mainstream top forty charts as well.
A sampling of The lyrics, cleverly written by Rhett Akins, Jesse Frasure, and Ashley Gorley
Been up since the crack of dawn
just trying to get paid
been hotter than a hundred suns
I can't find no shade
Just two more rows and I'm good to go,
Yeah, I'm shutting this tractor down
Get me a hla an hour for a shave and a shower
And I'll be outside your house....
The song was orginally called "Mud on my Truck", and then changed to "Dirt on My Boots". Rhett Akins, one of the co-writers states; " We really just wanted to paint the picture of a guy you'd root for".
The song is about a farmer who had just finished plowing the fields and now is heading to get cleaned up just a bit as he plans to take his girlfriend out dancing to a club, but he still will be wearing the same boots he worked in, with the dirt on them. The song is totally blue collar, and believable.
Dirt on My Bootscontinues to score in the Top 40 with this week scoring #16 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts. The song was the most added tune at country radio. Jon Pardi, with hitting the #1 slot for his previous single, Head Over Boots, is hoping that Dirt on My boots keeps kicking it up to score the coveted #1 slot as well.
