Better Manis the new single off Little Big Town's album, Breaker. The song was penned by a young girl in Nashville, who had pitched the tune to Little Big Town. The group recently revealed that the young girl in Nashville was in fact.....Taylor Swift. This is Swift's debut at ghostwriting for a musical artist other than herself. When crafting the tune, she sensed that the harmonies along with the hauntingly melancholy melody was the perfect fit for Little Big Town's musical style. When she presented it to the band, they fell in love with the song and recorded it for their new album.
As Taylor's songs are predominately about her past relationships, fans are speculating about who the song is truly about. Interesting note is that Taylor Swift composed both the lyrics and melody in 2010, just after breaking up with Musican, John Mayer, who she had dated from 2009-2010. Though Swift has been known to share with the media about her inspiration for her songs, she has kept rather quiet about the identity of Better Man.
Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild steps out front on the tune and sense that the song is about overall disappointments in relationships in your life. Fairchild shares that it is not just a lover, it could be a parent that let you down, and you're just trying to get over the sadness with moving on with your life despite the disappointments. The video's montage depicts a multi-generational view of men within a woman's life who might have caused her pain.
The group recently reunited with their producer Jay Joyce for this new album. Joyce had overseen and directed their last album, Pain Killer. With this breakout single, the album is doing well, with Better Manplacing within the Top Ten hit songs on Billboard's Hot Country Charts. Congratulations to Little Big Town for being award Group of The Year at the November 2, 2016 Country Music Awards.
