Canadian country duo High Valley has recently released a new single to US radio. The duo is composed of brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel who hail from Blumenort, Alberta, and grew up in a family-oriented Mennonite community. High Valley has released three studio albums. Their Broken Borders record won Album of the year at the 2007 GMA Canada Covenant Awards while their song “Back To You” was awarded Country Song of the Year. In 2011, the duo won five GMA Canada Covenant Awards, including Artist of the Year and Group of the Year. They’ve also had the privilege of opening for the likes of Shania Twain, Little Big Town, and Alan Jackson.
High Valley’s current single, “Make You Mine” was released in Canada in 2014, but only recently released here in the US earlier this February, hence why we’ve only just now got around to reviewing it. The single is the third from High Valley’s 2014 album, County Line, and features legend Ricky Skaggs. It is incredibly catchy and energetic. Featuring a foot stomping melody, the production is a mixture of mainstream and Americana sensibilities. Written by Seth Mosley, Brad Rempel, and Ben Stennis, “Make You Mine” peaked at #5 on the Canadian Country chart. The song has become the duo’s fastest selling song.
“Make You Mine” evokes the siblings’ homegrown values of family, faith, and farming, while depicting the wonderful mystic that is true love. The chorus, “You’re hallelujah Sunday morning/ All I’ve ever needed, wanted/ underneath this pale blue sky/ I’m going to make you mine/ yeah I’m going to make you mine”, is so infectious you won’t be able to stop yourself from singing along. Seriously, it’s probably the catchiest song to hit radio in a while. “Make You Mine” is fun, energetic, fresh, and just downright enjoyable. You don’t want to miss out on this single, trust me.
