VIDEO: Anielle Reid ‘Love Song’

Having released her videos for ‘Morality‘ and ‘Better‘ from her EP ‘Ain’t Like ‘Em’ last year, Florida native and banjoist Anielle Reid is now back with a brand new project. ‘Rememberin’ is due out in June, but lead single ‘Love Song’ it out today with a video to accompany it.

Calling it her attempt to pioneer a new subdivision within country under the title ‘urban banjo’, Anielle Reid’s cool and clever banjo playing and her smokey, soulful vocals are once again the stars of this track. There are plenty of interesting melodic and chromatic things going on throughout the song, even though she has kept the arrangement relatively sparse – true talent is making one or two components shine rather than flooding the listener with activity.

The video, in between shots of Anielle playing the song in various locations, shows a couple meeting and falling in love, but over the course of the clip they being to have problems and start to drift apart. There is no resolution nor break, and it feels as if the story is unfinished – perhaps they will pick up the tale in a future video. The song itself describes being in love, and hating how the other person has so much control, but in the end surrendering to the feeling despite misgivings. There are certainly elements of the negative sides to love in this clip.
