Buffalo Tom's Present To All Of Us Is Familiarity

If you take a look at Buffalo Tom's career, you will get the impression that this is a band who did not get the attention they deserve. The band was formed in 1986 by three good friends: Chris Colbourn (vocal/bass), Bill Janovitz (vocal/guitar), and Tom Maggins (drums). The band's name is a combination of their favorite band Buffalo Springfield and their drummer's name. At the very beginning of their career, there was also J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) who helped the, with the production of the first two albums. Their eponymous debut dropped in 1988, followed by gorgeous Birdbrain and Let Me Come Over.

During the 90s, alternative rock was on its success streak, and Buffalo Tom's music was perfectly congruent with the milieu of what was happening then. Singles from Big Red Letter Daytitled Soda Jerk and Late and Night were big hits on music lists. The album was succeeded by dSleepy Eye, but it wasn't until 1997's Smitten that the band started falling apart. They made a comeback 9 years later with Three Easy Pieces. Now let's fast forward a bit.

The first listen of the band's new record Quiet and Peace was like the moment when you see an old friend after 20 years. It evokes the memories and spurs nostalgia for the time when everything was good. All Be Gone unfolds the album in a manner that proves that Buffalo Tom still have it. The same applies to Lonely Fast and Deep.

Buffalo Tom show that they can still intertwine emotions and harmonious vocal arrangements with beautiful melancholic midtempo melodies. Roman Cars, CatVMouse, See High The Hemlock Grows with silky vocal interpretation of Chris Colbourn are the support for my previous statement. Freckles is the emotional zenith of the album. It starts easy with acoustic guitar and piano before moving to the crescendo.

The times we live in demand that we constantly seek new experiences, both in life and in art. Personally, I appreciate seeking for something old and familiar and that is precisely what I have got from Buffalo Tom
