Colin Lloyd Tucker - His Incredible Mind

Having just read Surferheads piece on this artist I am inspired to add my own experience of Colin's fine body of work.

I am grateful to Surferhead for filling me in on his early years, I knew about Deux Filles but not much else and hadn't realised that he had been around since the 1970s.

I came to his music having read a piece by Julian Cope in which he waxed about the 'Fear of Flying' album at the beginning of the 2000s. It sounded interesting and I got a copy of the CD from Tucker's website. To be honest I found it hard going at first due to its scope and diversity. Now it has become a favorite that I play often.

The latest 'Visitor' (2017) is, in some ways similar to Fear of Flying in that it contains too distinct halves, changing character mid way through. Like all his work it contains some great lyrics and he doesn’t shy away from rocking out when the mood takes him.

In-between there have been returns to purely electronic material as on 'Still Calm Melancholy' as well as what can only be described as 'Tuckeresk' outings such as the brilliant 'Inner Nutshell' and the 'Euphony' EP that has shades of 'Remarkable' about it.

I suggest that you put a golden afternoon aside to listen to all the above, you may not like it all but you are sure to find some tracks that will, dare I say, change your life.
