We had the opportunity to witness a linear revival of emo genre over the past few years. Notable albums were released by Pianos Become The Teeth, Touche Amore, The Hotelier, The World Is A Beautiful Place, etc. Now, one thing is becoming clear – Sorority Noise are a true leaders of this segment of indie scene. Their third full length studio album is inspired by tragic events and losses of dear people that lead to inability to accept the new reality and, consequently, severe depression. Sorority Noise know how hard is to deal with your depression, as depression becomes your comfort zone. Stepping out of the comfort zone might be one of the biggest challenges a human being can have during his lifetime.
`Their lyrics are their best weapons. It spurs the listener to discover their deepest feeling and to use their grey brain cells for empathy. Not many artists out there demand from you to put yourself in a position of someone with psychotic disorder. Their hope is that you might find understanding for the behavior of these troubled individuals.
The singer and the guitarist, Cameron Boucher, writes and sings from his soul. He offers stripped emotions while battling personal demons.

And both my ankles are sprained
Beware that I’m not who I used to be
Is everything okay
Not right now but it will be
I’m just stuck in the same old place again
These are just a few of referential points that give us a peak into the phases of grieving process. When it comes to music, the group of four found their shelter in the emo sound from the 90s, with the influences by American indie rock bands such as Nada Surf and Brand New. This comes as no surprise when you realize that Mike Sapone is the producer, the guy who is responsible for every Brand New album.
You’re Not As___As You Think is a collection of tense and dynamic songs bursting from punk energy and explosive guitar riffs. Everything is split into right amounts, so the intensity does not come off as overwhelming. No matter the forlorn and painful topics, this record delivers pure joy and fun.
If You’re Not As____As You Think is a representative of the state in which emo rock music is at the moment, I can only conclude that we can expect many great releases this year.
