TGIF everyone the Jesus and Mary Chain have released another single from their upcoming album Damage and Joy. Amputation felt like the band dusting themselves off from years of infighting and creative rot to feel their way back into t5he spotlight. It was a good song but nothing particularly special. If Amputation was standard Mary Chain then Always Sad goes back to the bands influences. Not since Psychocandy have the Reid brothers released a song that sound so much lke The Velvet Underground, and the lyrics are so overwrought, yet with a cool delivery that Bernard Sumner might feel the need to sue.

It’s a ridiculously good song that leafs through the bands back catalogue for their best and simplest lyrical dramas bringing to mind hard edged love stories like the part of On the Waterfront that wasn’t solely about the waterfront. The Mary Chain are back so get you leather jacket on and feel so cool in your leather boots.
