Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

Anton Donovan Provost, d/b/a Anton Donovan, singer, pianist, stage hypnotist and feckless gadabout from Halifax, Nova Scotia

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

"The Meat Obeys," my "Stairway to Heaven," if not my "International Player's Anthem," is based on a 1970s cult novel called The Dice Man, credited to Luke Rhinehart, about some jamoke who starts outsourcing his decision-making to a six-sided die, which leads to Fight Club type chaos. I discovered it at university and haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

Halifax, my loving, nurturing, and not-at-all jealous hometown, is a global hub for new age and self-improvement cults of all descriptions. Shambhala had its world headquarters there, which attracted that distinctly '70s "Spirit in the Sky" demographic. My parents were very much into all that as well. So my blood runs with self-help snake oil.
