Rebecca McDonnell Perspective on Glad
I LOVE IT! It makes me feel good. I feel like music is as important as breathing. Just got to do it, and it comes naturally.
Genres cover so much, I actually was wondering what genre this song is myself. I would have to go with singer-songwriter, since there is emotional lyrics with a storytelling experience, and sentimental piano parts. But also, I think it may have characteristics of Indie because it focuses on depth rather than a single sound that defines a song.
I was already performing when I was in Junior High School. I was a member of several string ensembles that would travel and play concerts. One year we went to Canada and performed in a mall there. It was very exciting! People actually came to me with their programs and asked for my autograph! I just kept performing as time went on in different orchestras. Then in high school I started going out to dance clubs where the music was quite different then what I performed classically. I got hooked on the cool beats and synthy textures. It was not long after that I wrote my first song.
I have been playing violin since I was in Elementary scchool, so classical music was what I listened to as a child. I would put on "The Nutcracker Suite" and wear a dress that was the closest thing I had to a tutu and dance around to the music.
Being a musician I have been around so many people who suffer from Depressive Disorder. Sometimes medicated, sometimes not, I could see it a mile away. That is what this song is about. A topic that may be unadressed in our song culture, I thought it was important to say something about it. I have tried to lend my positive force to people with this affliction, and give hope that things can actually get better with mindful intention.
Hi, I'm Rebecca Mcdonnell. I have a degree in Audio Recording Technology, and also majored in Sting Performance. I write songs and record them in my studio using Pro Tools and lots of fun plug ins. I am the engineer and producer of all of my compositions, all of this stuff comes out of my brain.
I also sing all the vocals and play all the instruments on my songs. I have the perfect bass sound on my keyboard and some fantastic drum sounds . That is always how I start recording a song, bass and drums first. Then I use some cool guitar and keyboard sounds followed by vocals.Somtimes layers of vocals- I enjoy doing that. I love when I can put my violin on songs. Not every song calls for that, it is a mood thing, a texture thing. It's a great day when I can put down a great violin solo that rocks!
