What inspired this song?

Answer:

I was lying in bed with a headache when the hook — “I got that damn bullet in my head” — popped into my head. I then started experimenting with the chorus. My girlfriend didn’t like the song at first — the initial draft of the lyrics didn’t make much sense to her. Then I came up with “Shoulda heard you — what you said,” and, almost like a miracle, she liked the song. ;-)
