Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I'm Zach Stich. I'm a singer songwriter from south Georgia.  I live in the Atlanta area now.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

This song is really inspired by people who try to run away from their problems but they can't because you cant run away from yourself.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Probably singing in the car with my dad.  We would go on these long road trips and when the radio signal would run out, my dad would become the radio.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I've always been creative.  Doing art and music and writing assignments was always way more fun than anything else.  I've always wanted to create.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Americana, alt country, swampy tonk

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I think as I learn and go more I like to challenge myself more and branch out to see how can I incorporate elements of other genres into my music.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Love, loss, regret, belonging, the normal ones.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.  I'm a huge muppets fan.

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

My favorite artist is probably Willie Nelson.  And I would describe Willie as the Music of America.  He's influenced everyone. Influenced by everyone.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

People have called my music Country but Smart.  I like that, though not all my songs are country.

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

I wish I could've seen Ray Charles perform.  Or John Prine.  John Prine has had a huge impact on my writing. When people tell me that I remind them of John Prine, its a huge ego boost.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

Jerry Seinfeld once said his favorite joke is the next one, and I identify with that.  I love the songs I've written and looking back some are better than others, but I'm always looking to make the next song I write my favorite song.

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Willie Nelson, John Prine, Paul Simon.  No one writes like them.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

I'd love to play Red Rocks or Billy Bob's or Willie's 4th of July Picinic.

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

I would love to do a collaboration with Vince Gill or Billy Strings

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

Like gotten the idea to write a new song? I guess a dream maybe. Or If I Had A Box was inspired by a facebook meme.

Strangest place I have discovered a new song I have never heard? I heard the clash for the first time when I was about to be operated on when I was a teenager.  I instantly fell in love with them

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

Entertained.  You hope your songs might connect on a deeper level, but I always want people to enjoy the music

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Honest, fun, engaging

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

Playing songwriter events.  So if you have one, get it touch, I'll come play it.

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

I met Joe Smart one time and he told me the difference between okay musicians and great musicians is that great musicians love to practice.  I'm still learning to love practice, but recently I've been working on learning more theory and trying to develop my current nonexistant skills as a lead player.

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

When people you admire tell you that they like your work. That's great.  I've had that happen a few times recently and that was really good.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

Making music you like and hopefully making money.

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

I don't know if I want to change the game. I just want to be noticed as a player in it.

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

To be true to yourself and whatever art you create.  Not everyone can write a protest song like Jesse Wells. But not every song has to be that song.

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

Its all scary.  Not knowing if youre good enough.  Not knowing if people will like you. Taking leaps into voids. A wise wizard once said " Its a dangerous business, going out your door " and it is.

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

So many.  My first gig this woman came up to me with a blank sheet of paper.  I asked her who she wanted me to make it out to because I thought she wanted an autograph. She was the shift manager wanting me to know how to spell my name for the check.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

I'd make streams pay more

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I've worked in churches, schools, zoos, law offices, I've done it all.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Being an artist can be lonely but if you have a good community of artists around you, you can be lonely together.

Which mediums of art do you most identify with?
Answer:

I like visual arts alot.  I like to paint sometimes. Mostly Bob Ross style landscapes.  I also love movies and tv. Writing a screenplay is on my bucket list.

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
Answer:

John Prine, Hayes Carll,  Jason Boland

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
Answer:

John Prine, Hayes Carll,  Jason Boland

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

Just because your music isn't for everyone doesn't mean that it isn't for someone.

How would you define having an artistic outlook on life?
Answer:

I think an artistic outlook for the most part is that of an optimist.  Even people who make what some people would consider to be depressing works of art. They take things that are miserable and can turn them into something profound and beautiful. And that is optimism.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

I love it.  I love seeing a blank page and my thoughts and idea filling it. I love finding a new melodic line. I love the act of creating and its hard. If it was easy it wouldn't be as fun.

What is your favorite work of art?
Answer:

My favorite movie is Jurassic Park. My favorite TV show is Justified. My Favorite Album is the Wille Nelson Stardust Album.  My favorite painting is wheatfield with crows by Van Gogh
