Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I'm Damien, a multi-instrumentalist, guitar nerd, producer, and composer who creates sonic alchemy by blending dance, funk, techno, and African rhythms into soul-moving jams. For over three decades, I’ve explored a wide range of soundscapes, with my music making its way from TV screens to dance floors around the world.

My journey through sound is driven by passion and curiosity. I’ve spent years honing my craft, experimenting across genres, and developing a style that’s both unique and deeply resonant. With a strong foundation in music theory and technical skill on multiple instruments, I strive to create intricate, emotionally powerful compositions that truly connect.

This year, I’ve set out on a new adventure diving headfirst into the world of dance music. I’m pushing creative boundaries, bending genres, and exploring uncharted sonic territories to generate an energy of pure celebration. My latest projects blend the familiar with the unexpected, reflecting my evolution as an artist and my commitment to keeping true to my funky and eclectic roots.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

This song, and the collection of songs for a forthcoming EP, is an emalgumation of the 1000+ tracks I've done for broadcast and independent work I've done over the years. I've explored so many genres over the years so I feel really good having landed on a "sound" for this particular project.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Easy, Funkadelic "Maggot Brain" album from my moms vinyl collection. Not long after I was given two casette tapes by a family member - "Cry Of Love" and "Electric Ladyland" by Jimi Hendrix.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

The moment I actually owned my own guitar, when I was 12.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

House, perhaps some Classic House vibes.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

In the last 3 years I discovered Afro Tech and Afro House music. That was the beginning of the funnel into the other House genres.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Good one! Kaytranada, Disclosure, Channel Tres, and ANOTR come to mind.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

If you Parliament Funkadelic married Frank Zappa and had a Deep House baby.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want to take people on a journey by taking the mind through different soundscapes. I no longer want to create background music.

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

Trust the journey and create the music YOU want to hear.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Profoundly! Lonliness is somewhat of a paradox. The more time you spend alone, the more you want to spend time alone, which makes you desire connection more. It's weird! I have to FORCE myself to leave the house a lot of the time. In most cases, I end up being thankful for doing so.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I was a Marketing Manager at Guitar Center's corporate office for approx. 11 years. Not long after that I was a Product Manager for JBL Professional and AKG Headphones for 8 years.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

Pay artists more money for streaming.
