How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

🎶 We've all met them: Jokers, Clowns, and the like. Now it's time to laugh, sing, and maybe scream a little with this unforgettable track. 🤡💔

Catchy, clever, and full of sass, this song delivers a swanky bassline and lyrics that’ll stay stuck in your head (in the best way). 🎸🔥 Whether you're dancing in the kitchen or belting it out in the car, this one’s made to be played on repeat. 🎤✨

Don't just listen once, put this track on repeat, turn it up loud, and sing along! 📀🔁

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

When people listen to your music, you want them to feel seen, smirking, and just a little dangerous. Like they’ve just walked out of a messy situation with their head high and a comeback ready. You want them to feel the swagger in the bassline, the bite in the lyrics, and that rush of power that comes from finally saying what needed to be said.

Whether they're laughing, healing, or flipping off the past, you want them to feel like the main character in their own redemption story—bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically alive.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

30,000 Listens in my first six weeks feels like success :)
I measure success in joy.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

The gatekeeping aspect. Aside from that - play if your heart wants to play - publish if your heart wants to publish. It's not always money drive, it's driven by heart.

Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I'm Maria, I'm my own muse. I am a wordsmith who loves basslines, swanky lounge, and lyrics that bite.

I say what needs to be said - both in the books I write, the podcast I host, and the music I create. You don't need permission to get loud - but hopefully my work inspires you to sing your own song - and sing it loud!

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

🎶 I’ve been making music for less than two months—yes, you read that right. Less than 60 days ago, I had never recorded a song. Now? I can’t stop. The music just poured out—not from nowhere, but from a lifetime of experiences, heartbreaks, survival stories, and sharp-edged joy. It hit like a freight train in the night, and I’ve been riding the momentum ever since. 🎤💥

At over 40, I’m living proof that you don’t need anyone’s permission to start something new. You’re not too late. You’re not too old. You’re not behind. When it’s time, it’s time—and when it hits, it hits hard.

I create music that feels like my life, but I think it might sound like yours too. Every lyric, every bassline, every bite of truth is a little piece of the soundtrack to surviving and thriving. I’m in the flow, and I’m not stopping anytime soon. 🔥🎸💃

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

I couldn't place an earliest memory, because music has always been around me - but I do remember my first favorite cassettes - Madonna, Like A Virgin - which made my poor mother lose her mind - I was 10. I also remember my very first cassette, given to me by my brother - Heuy Lews & The News - I want a new drug was the song of the album.

I grew up on hip hop, country, and the early days of MTV, and a record player that came in a fold up case.

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

I spent  years seeing my favorite artists perform. Deftones, Lucero, Alkaline Trio, and too many Family Values Tours to count. I never got to see Amy Winehouse perform live - and she truly is one of my biggest stylistic inspirations. Her story was rough, and tragic, just like her music, just like mine. And also, after watching the documentary - most defnitely Lady Gaga - I don't actively listen to her music - but she is one hell of a performer.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Soulful 🎧
Sharp 😏
Loungy, sexy, smooth, smoky 💣

Three would never be enough, ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

This email:

"Do you know Charles Bradley, who released his debut album at the age of 62. He had spent much of his life working various jobs, including as a James Brown impersonator, before finally finding recognition for his own music. Another example is Mance Lipscomb, who recorded his first album at 65 and performed at the Monterey Folk Festival. so just put in and you won't regret it. Your work is amazing!"

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

Because I am another type of artist, pursuing music has just been for fun and entertainment. There have not been any scary moments - aside from maybe realizing that people were listening - A LOT :)

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

I am a brand manager and marketing director. It's like playing in the sandbox all day long!

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

Seated casually in a silver room full of disco balls, seated comfortably on something glittery and silver, black velvet gloves, 50's vibe, vintage silver mic.

It's intimate, small venue. The audience feels spoken to, like they know the story of my life.

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

I practice to vent, or when I feel playful. Practice sounds like work - it truly is a flow state experience, a hook will get stuck in my head and the song sort of builds itself. Again with the 'over time' thing - I've been creating less than 3 months - it's just play, as music should be.

Name a song that best represents success to you, and why?
Answer:

Morgan Wallen's track "Thought You Should Know" hits the spot every time. Reminding your mom that her prayers have been answered is just a beautiful concept - and it's a beautiful song. Gives me goosebumps and a few little tears every time.

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

I would love to collaborate with CAKE - their bassist inspires me. Nobody can resist a good catchy bassline!

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

As someone who went to art school long before creating music, the role of an artist is to say what needs to be said, in a way that turns heads, and gets people to think.

The other purpose of art is art, creating for the sake of creating.

Sometimes it's a personal expression that isn't meant for the world, it's private, sacred, and other times it wants to be shouted from rooftops. Playfulness and creating are being in a true flow state is when you realize that the ideas don't come from you - they come through you.

It's quite beautiful, really. We are just channels of creative flowstate energy.

Which mediums of art do you most identify with?
Answer:

Today, music, other days, writing books, and other days, creating images.

It's like the question "What's your favorite thing you've worked on?"

The most recent one :)

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Jason Aldean, Chris Young, and (shameless self promotion) Midlife Madness.

Because all three make me sing my little heart out - and that's a damn good somatic release, and some nervous system love!

9 minutes of music that you love can change your mental state!
