Still Deciding Perspective on Reality Test

Song reviewed by:
We are excited to share Still Deciding's new track "Reality Test"! Our goal at SongBlog is to highlight outstanding new music and give you a peek at the artist’s world behind the music. In this blog we get a chance to sit down with Still Deciding to learn all about the inspiration, concepts, and creative energy that it took to create and produce "Reality Test". We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask Still Deciding anything!
What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

Emotions! lol, okay... I want people to feel like they are not alone in their anxieties about everyday life. But also it's punk so I want people to feel energized and free. Empowered maybe? One thing that's a bit weird is that I'm 12 (for a few more weeks) so I really just want people to feel like I'm someone they can take seriously, despite my age. - Stellan

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

I feel like we explore a lot of themes about perserverance through darkness. Our EP is called "We Survived For This?" because it was all songs I wrote during the couple years after COVID lockdowns and all the craziness that has been going on in the world since then. - Stellan

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

The Frights because they're one of my favorite live bands but also, when I was 10 I got to get up and sing on stage with them at The Roxy, so I know them a little bit and they've always been super nice. Plus the crowd at their shows always has a great vibe and is just a good fit for the music we're writing, I think. - Stellan

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

Well, I started writing songs at 9 years old and I'm 12 now, so my sound and style has entirely been invented in the last three years. However, I used to write more folk songs than I do now but since my band has formed, I've been more focused on writing punk/alternative rock.

Also, I used to write alone all the time but now the band will sometimes find songs through jamming together at practice. - Stellan

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

It's primarily an old school punk/garage rock tune but the main riff has a bit of classic rock to it. My dad says the riff reminds him of Mudhoney - Stellan

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

When I was 1 and a half I went to my grandma's house and there was a guitar there. My parents tell me I didn't stop stumming on it for three days straight. I've pretty much had a guitar (or drumsticks) in hand ever since. - Stellan

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

Since we grew up during COVID, this song is about avoiding/overcoming denial during hard times. The 2020s are a very strange and anxiety filled time to be coming of age and I'm dealing with that through writing songs. - Stellan

Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

We are called Still Deciding. We are a band of middle schoolers playing original punk/garage rock.

Stellan Arnold is the singer/guitarist and primary songwriter

David Hooper is on bass and backing vocals

Jude Pummill is on drums
