Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I am DMC The Great, a songwriter and artist out of Dallas, TX that started and manage my own indie label a year ago. I have been writing and performing hip hop since the middle 2000s and began my r&b journey 2 years ago.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

Being a songwriter, I capture the vibe of each song based on my experiences in relationships, lessons in life, or the vibes I feel when I'm in party or club or a sensual mode. Most people hear my music and relate to it and vibe with it which is important to me as a songwriter and artist.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My earliest memory of listening to music takes me back to my childhood cleaning the house and listening to my mother play old school Levert, Al Green and Sade. I can take it back when it comes to a variety of great music.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

Its funny because my start in music began in the gospel rap CCH arena where I traveled to different cities and states performing with a group and learning the music business. My journey led me to mainstream hip hop to now r&b as a way to express my greatest art.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Hip hop/trap soul r&b. It has Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Bryson Tiller vibez just depending on which songs you are listening to. Some songs even give a Giveon and The Wkend vibe. I'm inspired by all great r&b music.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

Pain and pleasure have been the driving factors in the lessons and experiences that I've had coming from broken relationships and self healing. These have caused my pen game to develop in a way that my songs amaze listeners in which I'm grateful for.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Sex, love, heartbreak, lessons of healing, and just being my dope self. I deliver a style that resonates with all aspects of life and love and the ups and downs of the life of a heartbreak who has experienced heartbreak himself.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Giveon and Tory Lanez. These guys inspire my pen and creativity to get on the level their on. I'd love to tour with artist that inspire my greatness because I am super picky and hard to please when it comes to music.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

Authentic, soul poetry, deep, sexy, innovative, a breathe of fresh air, and an experience of listening to a mix of Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, The Wkend, Bryson Tiller and Giveon all in one lol.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

Thats a very difficult question to answer because right when I say I have outdid myself and have found my greatest song, I write a new one I feel that out does the last one lol. They seem to just get better and better as I write. But I would say "Young and Dumb" is a very personal favorite, "Bad Girls" and "Tripping" are on repeat and "All The Way" shows my hiphop versatility.

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Tory Lanez because the guy is a slept on musical genius that is not afraid to push the boundaries of creativity and creates dope music. Giveon because this guy is just a beast when it comes to songwriting with a laid back appeal. And my last would have to be a female artist like Ella Mae. She is just too dope and never misses when it comes to great music.

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

In the bathroom at work right before I was about to get off I wrote "Money On It" lol. I was supposed to be working but the song just hit me and I had to go to the bathroom to write it.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want people to embrace feeling alive and enjoy living, enjoy their sensual side, the side of them that is ready to heal from heartbreak, and the side of them that just loves to vibe to great soul music.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

Everyone who knows me knows I will bombard them with text messages and post about new songs lol. I be excited when that new songs has me listening over and over again.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Dope, sexy, and authentic.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

The joy and fulfillment I get from finishing something I set my heart and mind to do and the creativity and art I express that touches people and gives them music they love just as much as I love creating it.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

I embrace loneliness and solitude. Its where my stregnth and creativity and confidence derives from. I watch people come and go, some support while others watch. But the joy of going after a big dream drives me no matter what.
