We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask Gwendolyn Spire anything!
Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I am Gwendolyn Spire and I am a singer/songwriter who is starting a new trend in pop music...known as Witchy Pop.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I have a fascination with Witch and Pagan Folklore, history, and spiritualism.  I consider myself a closet witch who has decided to come out in full force and write music that everyone can relate to in some way or another.  After all, we all have a little magic inside of us don't we?

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Oh gosh that is hard to narrow down, but I do remember sitting in my room singing along to the lyrics written inside the cover of Pat Benatar and Joan Jett's albums.  I had dreams of being just like them one day.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

When an ex girlfriend told me I could not sing lol.   Revenge is so sweet isn't it?  After that , I practiced every day until I thought I sounded good enough to go out and sing publicly.  To my surprise, I fit right in as the female lead singer in a local rock band and being on stage gave me the desire to become better and better.  It also helped that I had professionals like Kaye Stevens and Connie Francis on my team to guide me and encourage me to dream big.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

This song is definitely pop, dance!

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I started out as an EDM (electronic dance music) artist under the name of No Angel.  After the band split up, I had no idea where my music was going to go.  I moved to Costa Rica near a Volcano and it is a very spiritual place.   It was during a meditation one day that the idea came to me that I should invent a new style incorporating my knowledge and studies of Witches into a fun and quirky musical genre.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

whimsical, magical, mysitcal witchery!

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

first and foremost .... Stevie Nicks!   She is an inspiration and has opened the door to inspire our inner Witch and Goddess to come out so freeley.   She is the Diva of all Divas!

Second.. as of late my new favorite artist is Lola Young... have you heard her?   She is absolutely incredible, raw, and different .  She inspires women to love themselves and their bodies as they are  and embrace it.

Lastly... Chappel Roan... this girl is on fire !   She does whatever and says whatever she wants... I love her independance and confidence about who she is as an artist.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

My music is a blend of Witchy pop, soulful storytelling , and ethereal soundscapes.  My songs feel like spells-  intimate, enchanting, and emotionally charged.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

I would love a big stage of course... because...um.. who wouldn't .  My crowd would know the lyrics to my songs and I want the setting to have purple lighting with plenty of candles.   Flying monkeys would be a nice addition, but I won't go that far.

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

I could see myself collaborating just fine with Stevie Nicks or Billie Eilish.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want them to feel empowered to allow the mystery about their inner Witch to come out.  We all are mystical and magical in our own sort of way , no matter what religion or spiritual influences we have.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

my favorite way is via music videos on You Tube because it allows my song to come to life.   I also enjoy including my friends in the videos because they are fun and enjoy playing dress up with me lol.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Enchanting, Magical , and Fun as hell.

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

A recent write up in a London Music Magazine describing me as a new pioneer in the pop genre with my title of "Witchy Pop Music".   I was thrilled to be called a trendsetter!  That excites me because I want to be different than anyone else , but I also want my music to make people open to other types of music rather than cookie cutter pop.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

I wish we could go back to the old way of being able to take our new song into a radio station and ask them to play it, or walking into a record label and begging for a chance.   Right now my entire career is in the hands of the algorythm and going viral... that is really not fair at all, and the world is probably mission out on so many good musicians out there who just cant seem to get heard.  It is nearly impossible anymore to just have a chance at getting a larger audience unless you pay for it..... and most musicians don't have that kind of money.

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

stalkers.... definitely stalkers.   It's just weird...really.     I live in Costa Rica now... in a jungle.. so the only thing stalking me now are the monkeys and sloths...whew.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

yea... I don't wanna go there.. I wore a few hats in my life..... all good things though, but I'm gonna keep that part private.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

nope.. I'm a forest hag so I like being lonely.   lol...   when I'm performing , life gets a bit overwhelming ...so I'm fortunate that I can just hop on the plane and head home...far away from the rat race of it all.

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

lately I have a passion for producing videos!   I'm getting better at it with each one.   I honestly thought I couldn't do it.. but I'm able to invent the story and then make it happen.   It's great fun for me...almost as much fun as making the music itself.

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
Answer:

my sound has been compared to a cross between Sabrina Carpenter and Lady Gaga...

my stage presence would be most compared to Stevie Nicks.

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

that we are overworked and highly underpaid.  Streaming only pays us less than 2/10 of a penny... really?   come on!!!   It's hard , and it's even harder now to get heard.  I feel stressed and overwhelmed just trying to keep up with all the demands placed on me such as making music, keeping up with social media accounts, marketing, dodging scammers, entering contests, attending award shows... all pretty much on my own time with no pay.   Thank God I love making music...so it's not about the money ....although that sure would be nice at some point.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

Yes!   I believe in what I do ... and I also believe that its freakin good music!
