Paul Anthony Perspective on FLY

Song reviewed by:
We are excited to share Paul Anthony's new track "FLY"! Our goal at SongBlog is to highlight outstanding new music and give you a peek at the artist’s world behind the music. In this blog we get a chance to sit down with Paul Anthony to learn all about the inspiration, concepts, and creative energy that it took to create and produce "FLY". We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask Paul Anthony anything!
What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want people to feel gratefulpleased, maybe even a little confused—the good kind of confused, where you’re not sure what just happened, but you want to hit replay. I respect peoples time in todays drive through mentality.

I want listeners to ask: “Wait… was that a polyrhythm or wrong? was that counterpoint? what the hell did I just hear?”
To catch a strange chord voicing and wonder why it made them feel something.
To hear a texture and suddenly see a memory—or a movie—play in their minds.

My hope is that the music creates a cinematic experience, where sounds evoke imagerycolor, and emotion without needing a single lyric. Whether you’re driving, working, thinking, or dreaming, I want the music to score your moment like a film does.

If my songs can take people somewhere—even if they don't know where at first—then I’ve done my job.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

My music is like life—layered, unpredictable, and deeply human. At times, it’s subtle and textured. Other times, it’s loud, chaotic, even messy—but always intentional. I’m not afraid of complexity, even if it risks being cluttered—because that’s honest. That’s me.

Sonically, you’ll hear layers upon layers, carefully placed—sometimes whispered, sometimes shouted. I want listeners to discover something new each time they hear it.

I write and produce with the belief that every genre shares a common truth. Whether it’s hip hop, classical, soul, jazz, or ambient, I aim to create music that connects across taste. The classics are my foundation—I’ve just chosen different tools. Les Pauls instead of violins. Drum kits instead of timpani. But the theory, the emotion, the intention? It’s all rooted in the same discipline.

I’m sharing what I’ve learned from a lifetime of studying quality music. Because no matter what sound you use or what culture you’re in—a C# will always be a C#.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

At its heart, my music is about telling emotional stories—the kind that breathe, rise, fall, and leave a mark. I explore themes like redemptionregrethopeidentity, and the constant tension between where we’ve been and where we’re going.

My songs are never just verses and hooks—they’re meant to live and breathe, with highs and lowsspace and silenceclimax and release. I treat each track like a symphonic or sonic journey, whether it’s a raw hip hop confession, a jazz-soaked meditation, or a classical-inspired movement.

Even in modern production, I aim for a sense of narrative. The goal is to build something cinematic—something that moves like a score, not just a beat.

Every project I produce, whether it’s my own or a collaboration, is about story first. And that story has to be honest, layered, and emotionally resonant—because real music should feel lived in.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

What happens when classical discipline meets the heat of hip hop, the cool of jazz, and the heart of a 16-year-old in flux? You get FLY—a bold, genre-blending new single from Lilla Nova, Norway’s rising star, produced by Paul Anthony Rashley, 20 miles from the UK.

“FLY” isn’t just a song—it’s a coming-of-age moment captured in motion.

At just 16, Lilla Nova is already walking a tightrope between the conservatory and the club. Trained in the classics by her musician parents in Norway, she’s grown up with Chopin and Debussy—but her soul leans toward movement, expression, and basslines. In FLY, she lets go.

Produced by Paul Anthony Rashley, the track blends hip hop drums, jazzy chords, and a cinematic tension that mirrors Lilla’s story: a push and pull between tradition and freedom. Her vocals float and tumble, like someone learning to fly while still figuring out how to land.

So, what genres does FLY play into?
It's a true crossover. You’ll hear elements of:

🎧 Hip Hop – modern grooves, crisp snares, urban pulse
🎷 Jazz/Neo-Soul – lush harmonies, offbeat phrasing, emotional nuance
🎼 Classical Influence – underlying structure, dynamics, and restraint
🎤 Indie Pop/R&B – melodic hooks with a personal, poetic edge
