Square Wave Jerks Perspective on Grace & Compromise
Usually someone comes to the group with an idea. In the case of Grace & Compromise, Josh had recorded a demo and shared it with everyone to use as a rough outline. From there, everyone wrote their own parts and, after playing through the song a few times, the arrangement was tweaked to make something similar to what you hear on the recording.
When we were in college, we spent nearly every weekend in local music venues. If we weren't playing that weekend, we were watching our friends play and the venues were full of people looking for live music. That was just what everyone did. Today, a lot of the venues are gone and guitar based rock is somewhat out of fashion. I would love to see that come back around.

Easily Led Zeppelin in the early to mid 70s because they have always been the epitome of live, loud rock music for me.

My earliest memory of listening to music is twofold. The more generic answer to this question is listening the oldies station in the car when my parents would take us on road trips. My dad also wore out a Juice Newton cassette tape which was pretty campy but the songwriting wasn't bad. My more specific answer is when my parents had a New Year's Eve party in or around 5th grade and I thought the California Raisins version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" was the best thing ever. I'm not even ashamed to admit how much I loved those terrifying anthropomorphic saxophone-playing raisins as a child. 🤣

Beck would be my choice. I'm a huge fan and he has done a lot of really cool collaborations with a lot of great artists.
He also has several ex members of Jellyfish in his band and Jellyfish is Gregg's all time favorite band.
