J.Squiya Perspective on NAWMAL.

I decided to become an artist in high school, thanks to an unexpected moment of recognition. An alumnus from my school in Jamaica saw a playful video of my friends and me in class, beating drums on the table and freestyling. He brought it to the principal’s attention—not to reprimand us, but because he saw potential. He wanted to collaborate with me to create an empowering song for our track team, which was heading to nationals.
That song turned out to be a hit! It was played on the radio, and soon the entire country was singing it. While our team didn’t win that year, something amazing happened the following year—Kingston College took the championship and has remained undefeated ever since. It’s incredible to think that my song might have played a small role in that enduring success.

'Thats a hard one! ....... no Diddy"

The fact that my love for my daughter fuels your artistry makes it even more meaningful. It’s not just about creating music—it’s about building a legacy, showing her that passion, perseverance, and cultural pride can shape a better future.
Through 'NAWMAL.', I'm not only introducing the world to dancehall but also setting the stage for her to witness the strength and determination of her father firsthand.

The way 'NAWMAL.' captures the essence of Jamaican life—from its infectious energy to its unapologetic confidence, speaks to the heart of the genre. Dancehall has always been more than music; it's a movement, a lifestyle, and an unapologetic expression of joy and resilience.

Heavy Dancehall

My name is J.Squiya, and I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica—the heart of dancehall and reggae culture. I moved to the United States at the age of 15, and now, at 24, I continue to embrace my deep-rooted passion for music. From singing in school choirs to performing at events, I’ve always been naturally connected to the art of storytelling through sound.
While I appreciate and draw inspiration from all genres of music, my foundation is firmly planted in the vibrant rhythms and lyrical mastery of dancehall and reggae. Growing up in the epicenter of these genres shaped my sound, my perspective, and my ability to craft music that resonates deeply with audiences.
