Charley Young Perspective on A Song About You

I believe too much emphasis is placed on "packaging," meaning the looks, age, and style of the artist. It's the words, the message that truly matter. It is why I believe the most significant music is being made by independent artists, artists who are not being forced to focus on ROI by labels run by MBAs.

I knew pretty early on that I wanted to be a singer/actor/performer. I was always putting on shows for my family and friends, creating characters, and playing with costumes and makeup. I also fondly remember watching music videos and pretending I was in music videos as I went about my day to day life. I was absolutely enraptured by them. I began writing songs, poetry, and short stories at an early age, and even won awards for adult literary contests. I participated in school plays, talent shows, and a musical theatre group that performed at the White House, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and more. I was always fortunate to have a family who never tried to dissuade me from following my dreams. I did, however, have a period of time when I didn't believe in myself and was scared to pursue my goals. I still deal with t self-limiting beliefs, but I remember my goal as an artist is to help others, not elevate myself.

This particular release crosses the electronic, pop, and dance genres, resting most closely with the subgenre of synthpop. I enjoy all three of these genres, the electronic genre being my favorite and the biggest influence on my sound.
