Brett Mondie Perspective on Whiskey Makes Her Miss Me

My name is Brett Mondie, and I write country music.

Well I think we've all been there before, right? You get you're heart broke but then that old lover might come back around... Maybe something makes them think of the good times and then other things remind them of the not-so-good times. A guy might try to change the events happening to encourage a little more... well in this case: whiskey drinkin'

When I was little, like 5 or 6 I remember singing along to Cocomo by the Beach Boys. Man, I still love that song!

A part of me has always been a performer. The artist part started to happen when my life got more complicated (around 13). So I needed an outlet. And creating songs out of thin air was highly theraputic!

I think country most obviously. But I'd be lying if I said I don't always have a few other things in the mix. In this song, I have some pop-punk, beatles and even a few motown ideas sprinkled in.

Well playing full blown country music started about 10 years ago- but in the past 3 I've honed in my live performance more than anything else. Which has really leant itself to better studio recordings. Style-wise, I'd say it's become clearer to me, but that's hard to put into words for someone else.

I love heartbreak and love songs. Love has always moved me. But I also write about general experiences of daily life. And I like to write songs that have a comical flavor. Because it's way too easy to take yourself too seriously. That's my way of fighting that urge.

I think my sound would mesh well with Parker McCollums Fans. So let me know if anyone has his agents number...

The answer to this question is highly fluid and changes often. But right now, I'd say I'm most proud of the song "Hit & Run". Some magic was present the day that song came to life. It's very non-traditional structure wise, and it has such powerful harmonies and great guitar tones. Among other reasons, that's my current fav.

John Mayer. His guitar skills are otherworldy.

Oh man I've had more than a few... the one that comes to mind as the most embarrassing was probably my brothers wedding. I drank all day and then had to sing their first dance- it was not my best work. They were so nice and said they loved it. But I expect more of myself.
