CO CYPH Perspective on Getaway

I'm a Hip-hop Fusion artist and performer in Kihei, HI. I use a combination of analog and digital instruments to create genre-bending tunes that blend elements of Hip Hop, Reggae, Neo-Soul, Funk, and Punk.

Originally from Colorado Springs, CO, I play several instruments and have performed in group and solo settings in a wide variety of genres and locales. As a result I have developed a broad base of influences that appear throughout my music.
Getaway features dense lyricism, rhythmic guitar, driving bass, and soulful vocals on top of chopped breaks.

I remember listening to 2Pac in the back of my dad's car

My parents used to take me to the Winter Park Jazz Festival in the late 90's. The event used to be held on the ski slope and it was always packed with a fun crowd. I remember seeing their reaction to the performers and knowing that I wanted to be there myself some day.

I would describe the track as a Hip Hop (as opposed to jazz/rock/reggae) Fusion because it built with a lyrics first sensibility and is driven by a chopped boom bap. The tune also features reggae tutus, funky guitar delays, and a driving punky bass line.

While I have written and performed a ton of original material, in the past I hesitated to release songs like Getaway because I didn't like the quality of my recordings. As a result, previous releases were more on the side of experimental Hip Hop and Electronica, but as I have gained knowledge on the production and engineering side of things, I have expanded my sound design and tool kit pretty significantly.
During that time I have also grown my performance calendar significantly, which has allowed me to improve the quality of my performance, and workshop material on live audiences.
Over all I'm a better songwriter, and player, which is something I hope I can say again three years from now.

Getaway explores themes of loneliness, isolation, and hope. More broadly my work reflects the need for love and compassion in a world that seems to prefer oppression.
I approach this with a variety of techniques in ways that are sometimes humourous, sometimes earnest, and sometimes deadly serious

The Legendary Roots Crew! To share a stage with such an incredible group of performers would be the experience of a lifetime. After that, in no particular order, Run The Jewels, Tribal Seeds, Aesop Rock, or anything band that Dave Grohl is in. And Billie Eilish. Or Anderson Paak
