Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

Im called MICHAEL ROSS KAKOOZA.A ugandan rnb/afrobeat singer,dancer and songwriter.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

My background is african .And an immigrant living and working in the US.I wrote this song from experience living and hustling in the US chasing the american dream. And i know there are alot of other immigrants all over the world that can relate with it.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Today is the earliest memory of me listening to music.I listen to music everyday of my life.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

Ive been a lover of music since my childhood.I was a dancer through out my teen years while going through high school and college.I decided to persue a full fledged singing and performing career at the age of 21.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

This song is a blend of both afrobeats and amapiano.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

My style has evolved according to the evolution of music over the years.However i havent lost the base roots which is rnb.And it this is reflected in all my songs that ive released lately.Including this one (TUKOLE)

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

MY themes are my everyday life. Every stage of my life whether joyful or painful is where i draw inspiration to write my music.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

I would love to go on tour with USHER,MISSY,WIZKID and TEMS

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

I would descibe my favorite artists music as daring,invoking,inspirational and the ultimate soundtrack to life.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

I would describe my music to some one who has never heard it before as. Inspirational, daring,reflective,spiritual and sincere.Because it comes from a very honest place.

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

USHER.I choose usher because he has been one of my greatest influencers over the years.Ive learned alot as an artist by following him.Theres alway something to learn from him. He delivers when it comes to the music and also his live performances.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

Im yet to make my favorite song.Because i believe there always room for improvement.

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

USHER, R.KELLY and MICHAEL JACKSON. ALL these artists have something unique and they are all trendsetters in their own lanes.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

MY dream performance is a 2hours concert with back to back hits in a stadium of about 90 thousand screaming fans in attendance. And abt 3 billion other fans watching live online.

Answer:

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

In a dream

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want people to feel encouraged,uplifted and inspired.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Godly,Relatable, exceptional.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

MY favourite way of sharing my music is through social media.

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

Yes i practice.My pratice hasnt really changed much.Except in afew isolated cases where i have to practice longer or diffrent for a show or particular video that has choreography in it.

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

The most memorable response ive had to my work is people commenting on my social media accounts about how my music has helped them through their relationships. Others have used my music on their weddings. That gives me a sense of purpose.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

Success to me as an artist is using your GOD given gift to uplift,inspire and create joy.

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

I only want to continue doing what i do at an even higher level and on bigger platforms.As long as i stay true to who iam and what i stand for.

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

An artist's role today in our society is to uplift people through positively impactful music. Music that not only speaks to the heart but also speaks about the spiritual, political and social aspects that are part of the fabric of our society.

Name a song that best represents success to you, and why?
Answer:

The song that best represents success to me is  IF i RULED THE WORLD by NAS.He raps about being aruler living in a world where everybody is living good and we are all getting along. No Racism,Jealousy or crime.

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

MY scariest experience while persuing music is when me,my manager and a show promoter were driving through an on going civil war in south sudan in 2008. We were stopped at a road block by rebel soldiers that asked us all kinds of questions. What helped us was the fact that they had heard of me coming to perform in a small town called NIMULE.So they let us through.

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

MY most embarassing moment while persuing music is when i jumped onstage while GINUWINE was performing and i got tossed off. That sole incident overshadowed my career for w hile and became the highlight of my career back home in uganda.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

If i could alter the music industry.I would enforce quality control. There's too many untalented artists out there singing all kinds of garbage. While the talented ones are struggling to be heard. I would make sure the music gets back to being uplifting and inspiring instead of being destructive.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

Ive been a CNA.

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

Im a passionate lover.So that has come in handy many a times while writing and making music.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Being an artist hasnt made my life lonely. Im just picky at who i let into my space. And that applies to who i choose to date as well. By the time i give some one access to my space and attention. It means they have passed my test.

How would you define having an artistic outlook on life?
Answer:

Life in itself is art in motion. Therefore there is inspiration all round us everyday. All i do is make my own interpretation. I guess thats what gives me an 'artistic outlook 'on life

What is your favorite work of art?
Answer:

My favorite work of art is my singing and dancing.

Which mediums of art do you most identify with?
Answer:

The mediums of art i most identify with are music and visuals

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
Answer:

Comparison is one of the greatest forms of flattery. And while its inevitable to be compared to somebody i embrace it. With that said. The  three artists i would like to be compared to are MICHAEL JACKSON,USHER and R.KELLY.

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

The most significant lesson ive learned through being an artist is PURPOSE. At first i did this for fun. Then i realised it can be a career. But for the years ive done this. Ive seen how my music has touched peoples lives for the better. Thats when i realised that this is my calling. My PURPOSE.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

I can give you atleast 3 reasons driving me to continue doing music.But one of them is PASSION. I enjoy making music. 

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

My over arching goal as an artist is to touch as many lives as possible with my music.
