Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I’m DJ Khaotic, an international DJ, Grammy-nominated songwriter, and producer with a passion for creating music that transcends genres. Born in Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey, I began DJing during the pandemic and have since developed a signature style that blends HipHop, Dancehall, R&B, New Orleans Bounce, and Jersey Club.

Music has always been my calling—sparked by inspiration from Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" and nurtured through early exposure to DJing and songwriting. My first major milestone came at 17 when I produced "You Are" by UK artist Angel, earning my first Gold RIAA-certified single. Since then, I’ve consistently released music, including collaborations with artists like O.N. Milli and RealFlexxin, delivering both innovative tracks and crowd-favorite DJ mixes.

I’m dedicated to sharing my sound globally, releasing weekly music on platforms like Spotify, and connecting with fans through dynamic performances and social media. My goal is to push boundaries, inspire creativity, and keep the world dancing to my beats.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

My background plays deeply into the creation of Better Us because it reflects my personal experiences and understanding of love, relationships, and emotional connections. Growing up in South Jersey and being surrounded by diverse musical influences like HipHop, R&B, and Dancehall taught me how to channel genuine emotions into my music.

With Better Us, I wanted to capture that raw and honest feeling of wanting to build something meaningful with someone—a love where both people uplift and inspire each other equally. It’s about that mutual give-and-take, where both sides feel valued and seen. My journey as a producer and songwriter has always been about blending my personal experiences with music to tell a story that resonates universally.

The song reflects not just how I want to love but also how I want to be loved in return, creating a balance of passion and respect. It’s a heartfelt message wrapped in melodies and rhythms that mirror my life and artistic vision.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My earliest experiences with music are some of my most cherished memories. Music has always been a constant in my life—my mom used to sing As by Stevie Wonder to me when I was just a baby, and those soulful melodies were my first introduction to the power of music. At the age of 2, I started taking dance lessons, which deepened my connection to rhythm and movement.

Even as a young musician, I realized music was more than just something I enjoyed—it was a part of me. Growing up, I had an unconventional childhood, and music became my refuge, my escape from the challenges and traumas I faced. It allowed me to express emotions I couldn’t put into words and gave me a sense of freedom and comfort.

Those early experiences shaped who I am today, not just as an artist but as a person. Music has always been my safe space and my voice, and I carry that with me in every song I create and every beat I produce.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I decided to become an artist when I was 9 years old. I remember hearing Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars, and it was like a lightbulb went off inside me. Inspired by the emotion in the song, I picked up a pen and started writing for the first time. At that moment, I knew I wanted to express myself through music. But it wasn’t easy—I struggled to turn my thoughts into lyrics and felt frustrated when I couldn’t get the words out the way I wanted.

Later, during counseling sessions, I found it just as hard to express my emotions verbally. My therapist suggested writing songs as a way to process my feelings, knowing how naturally music flowed through me, especially when I was at the piano. That suggestion changed everything. Music became my language, my therapy, and my creative outlet. From that day forward, I never stopped writing, producing, and exploring ways to tell my story through sound. It was in those moments that I realized being an artist wasn’t just something I wanted to do—it was who I was meant to be.
