Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

Coco Schanell is more than a singer-songwriter; she’s a true songstress and visionary, bringing the raw soul of R&B and the unapologetic edge of Hip-Hop back to the spotlight. Music has always been in Coco’s DNA. Growing up, she played piano at the age of 5 , violin, bass guitar, and trumpet, but it was her voice and pen that truly set her apart. Singing in church choirs, competing in show choir, and performing at events, she refined her craft and learned to channel life’s stories into unforgettable melodies.

Her debut album, Lost and Found, is a masterpiece of vulnerability and triumph. Each of the 13 tracks is a page from Coco’s life—a journey through moments of being lost and the powerful realization that she is exactly where she belongs. Coco not only wrote every song but also produced most of the beats, curating a sound that’s as authentic as it is timeless. Collaborations with her son, Eli, on “Peace,” and her husband, Maji, on “Dark Shadows” and “The.Icon,” add layers of intimacy and legacy to an already extraordinary project.

Coco’s inspirations read like a Hall of Fame roster: Erykah Badu, Marsha Ambrosius, Aaliyah, Nicki Minaj, Keyshia Cole, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Adele, and Christina Aguilera just to name a few. Their influence is woven into her music, but Lost and Found is where Coco Schanell’s own voice shines. For years, she aimed to sound like the greats, but this album is her declaration that she is one of them. Her lyricism and vocal precision elevate her to a league of her own, capturing the essence of what it means to be a true artist in today’s music landscape.

Now, Coco Schanell is preparing to raise the bar even higher. Her second album, yet to be titled, promises to be a celebration of growth and evolution. Its lead single, “Easier,” is already making waves with its soul-stirring story of rediscovery after heartbreak. Produced by City Official, it reflects Coco’s current creative headspace: focused, fearless, and flourishing.

Beyond her solo projects, Coco’s collaborations continue to build her legacy. Working with talents like Da Heist and Maji, she’s expanded her sound while keeping her signature style intact. Tracks like “Opportunity,” produced by Eli.The.Icon and engineered at the renowned House of Hits, capture the essence of her artistry: music that’s not just heard but felt.

For Coco Schanell, R&B and Hip-Hop aren’t just genres—they’re a way of life. With every beat, every lyric, and every performance, she aims to bring back the depth and authenticity that made these genres iconic. Coco Schanell's music is more than a vibe; it’s an experience you can’t live without. #cocoschanellvibe

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Music was everywhere for me, in the car, while we cleaned, at the park playing tennis, singing in church and at school. I love and live music!  The way I see it, is there is a song for every situation and my life is a musical.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

Coco Schanell’s journey with music began at just 3 years old, her powerful voice captivating all who heard her. But life’s challenges led her away from her first love. The most defining moment came when she sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" at her grandmother’s funeral—a woman who had always believed in her gift. Overcome with emotion, Coco couldn’t finish the song as her aunt held her tight. In that moment, music became a painful reminder of loss, and she retreated from it, singing only in fleeting private moments like car rides.

A decade passed before music found its way back into her life. A friend introduced Coco to a beat-making program, and the spark she thought she’d lost began to flicker. Immersing herself in production, Coco reignited her creativity and wrote her first song, "Milky Way," which she sang daily on her way to work, practicing as if preparing for the stage.

Then, serendipity struck. Her husband, Maji, brought home an unexpected offer: payment for cooking Jerk Chicken or studio time. Coco didn’t hesitate—studio time was the obvious choice. That session birthed "Milky Way," her first single and music video, and became the launching pad for her debut album, Lost and Found.

The album is a testament to Coco’s resilience and artistry, a journey of rediscovering her voice and embracing the joy of creating music that speaks to the soul. It features 13 self-written tracks, including collaborations with her son, Eli.The.Icon, and her husband, Maji, on standout songs like "Peace," "Dark Shadows," and "The.Icon."

Coco’s artistry is deeply rooted in the legacy of R&B and Hip-Hop, inspired by legends like Erykah Badu, Marsha Ambrosius, Aaliyah, and Whitney Houston. But Lost and Found is where Coco’s own voice shines brightest. It’s a declaration of self-discovery and a celebration of her return to music.

With the release of her second album underway, led by the single "Easier," Coco Schanell is once again proving that music is not just what she does—it’s who she is. Her story is one of resilience, passion, and an unshakable belief in the power of music to heal and transform.

Coco Schanell is here to remind the world that R&B and Hip-Hop are alive and thriving, and her voice is one you’ll never forget.
