Hannah Michelle Perspective on Did You Ever

This was an extremely vulnerable and emotional song to write. In 2019, I spent a few months secluded from my family and friends. I was going through a very public and ugly. I was struggling with a lot of emotions and hurt caused by my family and loved ones. Sides were picked, and I felt like my parents chose my ex over me. They showed him constant support and love while withholding it from me because I wasn't doing what they thought was "right." I felt like they preached love and faith while they reached for the gavel and judged me. It stirred up feelings and emotions I had struggled with since childhood, revealing the control and judgment that was masked under "religious beliefs." 

Since then, my parents and I have done a lot of work to improve our relationship. We had hard, emotional conversations that often ended in tears, but they were necessary to reach a place of understanding and acceptance. 

My hope for this song is that it will provide a starting point for people to have an open, honest, and probably tough conversation and reach a place of understanding.
