Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

I am a Music and Spanish teacher with a dream to pursue a musical career, and to help other achieve their goals if I can. I've had a passion for music since I was much younger, and still continue to do so. 

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I taught myself how to play my instruments such as guitar and piano. And I always look and listen for inspiration as well. 

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

When I first saw the movie Grease. The singing just inspired me to do so! 

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I was I my late teens. But my education had to some first. I did it as a side hustle with different bands, and was writing songs since I was about 14 or so. 

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I always see it as a learning experience, and I keep it going. My recording styles have changed a lot since my beginnings with pro tools. I am always looking up tips and tricks and different ways to record a track. 

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

More or less just an average person waking up every day to go to work, drive to work, and thinking about their dreams and goals. 

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

It varies from song to song. On my album This is Me, I jump around to show other genres as well.  I can't seem to stick into just one! 

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Oh wow! It would be to open for Guns N Roses or even for Slash's solo projects! I'm a huge fan! 

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

In your face style of rock influenced by The Rolling Stones, which really meaningful lyrics. 

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

A mixture of rock, pop, ballads, and even some Christian influences. 

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Definitely Queen, but with Freddie Mercury. His vocal styles were awe inspiring! 

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

That's a tough question! While I love all the songs that I've written, the one I had the most fun with is a song on my current album, What You Hear is True. It's basic but it is to the point. It's the 4th song on my This is Me album. 

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Queen for its singing and music.
Guns N' Roses for its heavy melodic tones.

Motely Crüe because it's really heavy and also alternate tuning. 

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

It could be a small venue, but I would love to have people who would appreciate and support me very much! I wouldn't even mind opening for someone.

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

Definitely Slash! He could play his guitar and I would do the vocals! 

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

That they could sing along with the lyrics, and if applicable, play an instrument to jam along! But most importantly, I would like them to feel happy and just enjoy!

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

lol! I guess in the shower! I like to listen to music in the shower! 

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Hard working, Passionate, and Dedicated! 

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

Word of mouth, telling people where to go look for me, social media. I'm trying to get more people to follow my@officialhenrydiaz page so I can do live content. 

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

I try to practice every day. Since I am a teacher and a parent, it can be challenging, but I try. 

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

When I released my album This is Me last year, my students in the 6th grade applauded me very loudly in the auditorium. I want sure at first and then they told me that they saw their streaming services and found me. It was so sweet and so cool at the same time! It felt real nice! 

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

Hard working, listening to other artists to obtain inspiration, and not being afraid to step out of a comfort zone. 
I am always lsusteing to different styles and genres. I appreciate and respect what I hear. And sometime I like to show appreciation by experimenting with my own styles and combining different playing styles. 

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

Keeping an open mind with what I hear, and see what matches with me and what I can do to improve my styles. 

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

An artist likes to share their talents and abilities. Artists play a vital role in society, contributing significantly to cultural, social, and emotional well-being. Artists enrich our lives, encouraging creativity, empathy and understanding.

 

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

Fears of not being appreciated, and not being accepted for trying different ways to reach an audience. 

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

As a teacher, more support for music and art programs through funding that would not be so difficult to obtain. 
More job opportunities and proper compensation for the arts as a whole. 
Definitely more mental health resources and wellness programs for artists who need a break when feeling overwhelmed.

and I also feel the industry should allow fans to interact more with their favorite artists as time would permit. We are all people who should work together, and the experience would be memorable. 

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I worked in retail in places such as Barnes and Noble and Sam Ash Music. I have also worked as a publications manager for the American Compoers Alliance. I currently am a Music and Spanish teacher at OLPHCAB in Brooklyn, NY. 

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

As a Chorus director at my current job, I enjoy working with the kids and emphasizing the importance of singing as a group. My goal one day is to take the stronger singers and focus on harmony. 

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Sometimes as I work a lot on my own. But I do have a chance to talk to other musicians about their experiences and what they do that keeps them busy. However the people I speak to have their own musical commitments. 

How would you define having an artistic outlook on life?
Answer:

I look at my musical world as an empty canvas waiting eagerly to be full with many different colors and attributes of music. 

What is your favorite work of art?
Answer:

Van Gogh - Starry Night.

Which mediums of art do you most identify with?
Answer:

Impressionistic art, and experimenting with selected colors. 

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

It is never easy. You have to remember that when situations get rough, do not give up. 

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

My kids. They are my reason. I want to leave them in a better situation when I am not here anymore. 

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

Losing my voice while singing and having to make best efforts to not make it obvious! 

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

I would like to make people happy with my music, collaborate with other musicians that may have similar backgrounds, and share creative ideas in general. 

Name a song that best represents success to you, and why?
Answer:

Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N' Roses because  it was written by a hard rock band that shows another side to their style.

Answer:

All Rose for his songwriting abilities
Freddie Mercury because of his vocal styles.
