Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is John Wessel . Song Writer, Musician, I play Flute , Sax and keyboards. I am a lead singer and a harmony singer. I write and record my albums, some of them are on Rhombus Records lable, and others are on my lable Swamp Rock Records. I have been performing live shows for 52 years. 

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

My Background for this song is that I write everyday I never know for sure what style of music will come out at any given time. I immerse my self with styles and feelings to capture things I have felt or what others have felt. 

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

The Beatles on Ed Sullivan show and some songs from the 50s that my older Brother listened to. 

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

At 10 years old I put my first band together in Reseada Ca. 

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

This release is more Blues.

Answer:

This release is more Blues. 

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I have traveled alot and I get motivation from the places I visit. The last 3 years music some inspired from Ireland after being there, Others from my trips to New Orleans most recently after moveing to Washington State. 

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Several Themes Happiness. Sadness , Sorrow, Heart felt pain of relationships and so on.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

I have been lucky in my life being friends back in the 80s with Ronnie James Dio, Have opened for Spencer Davis Group, Doug Heliwell of Supertramp, Canned Heat 3 times and Robin Trower once. Also performes several Jethro Tull tribute show with Tull Original Bassist Glen Cornick as well as recording original songs with him. Since I play flute he was the perfect fit. 

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

I can only describe my music as I have no choice on what I will write it writes it selve daily. 

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

I think perhaps Tom Petty never got to see him live. 

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

I really do not have a favorite song of my own they change every album that I write. 

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Tull, Robin Trower and Martial Tucker, Because I love the power of their music.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

Playing with the best players that I could get, Playing a two hour show and making everysong count.

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

In a bathroom that I was in at a show I was playing and the music and the lyrics to my original just popped into my head. 

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want people to feel what I feel when I get a perfect feel for the lyrics and the music.

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

Music outdoor festivals where the crowds were so amazing and open.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

Live or recorded 

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Dedicate, versatile, and Easy going. 

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

Practice playing and writing daily , 

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

To bring happiness to people who love music and to have them dance or sing along or just to sit and enjoy.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

To many to count over the years. 

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

when I was 17 I ran a add looking for Bassist who sounds like Jethro Tull style. Two days later Glenn Cornick of Tull called me on the phone. I thought it was a joke so I hung up on him 5 times. He kept calling back then he gave me his number. I called him back and he said just come to my house in Laurel Canyon I went and it was him we became friends for life and we always laughed about that call. 

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

Love of performance and creating.

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

To create and have fun.
